Resort Living

My day in St. Kitts was supposed to start with a drill, but due to a medical emergency onboard, it was rescheduled. I filled the unexpected free time with a long phone call with my beau, and then headed to the theater for a divisional safety meeting. As soon as the meeting concluded, I hopped into my bathing suit and met my friend at the gangway.

I’d been to St. Kitts a couple times, but never left the port area. My friend and I were both interested in a relaxing afternoon, but also wanted to get away from the ship, so we decided to take a taxi to the Marriott resort about 10 minutes away.

The hotel lobby was filled with natural lights, plants, and neutral colored marble. The first thing we saw after crossing through the lobby was a wooden boat decoratively placed in a small pool of water. As interesting as the boat was, the sights that followed were even better.

Small bridges and walkways led to a large, crystalline pool surrounded by bright green plants, palm trees, and royal blue lounge chairs. We walked straight to a café at the far side of the pool for lunch. From our table, we were able to enjoy an unobstructed view of the beach.

I ordered a mango-banana smoothie and a hamburger. The burger was topped with bacon and accompanied by some delicious French fries and a small side of coleslaw with raisins. I enjoyed each bite, but was unable to finish the massive meal!

After lunch, we found two lounge chairs and sat down. Each chair had an attached shade that could be adjusted to block the sun. My pale skin was happy to have coverage! I waded in the pool for a few minutes, but spent most of my time resting and chatting with my friend. Living in such bustling environment, it was nice to have a quiet afternoon away from the usual masses of people.

We came back to the ship early enough to nap and go to the gym before our cast dance class. It was a refreshing day, and made me more excited to return to St. Kitts.
